The welcome is warm, direct and without empty frills.
At Borgo Spante you will find independent rooms and spacious
apartments, completely furnished, with lounge, open fireplace,
kitchen or cooking corner, bedrooms with two or three beds and
en-suite bathroom.
The farmhouse holiday fits naturally into an environmental
setting that is endlessly fascinating and richly provided with
charming scenery and all sorts of corners for informal
meetings and reunions.
The owners' villa, the park, the Italianate garden, the avenue
of holm oaks leading to Roccolo – the former bird snare
clearing encircled by trees – the bell tower and the little
Chapel of the Madonna of Peace, these are the scenes that meet
your eye when you lean out of the windows of the rooms and
apartments created by restructuring the former farmhouses that
form a square around the villa and the old stables.
These really do not exist:
Asphalt: |
in order to get to Spante you will have to drive along 2.5 kilometres of dirt road. |

in the evening we prefer to listen to the tales and Stories of our guests. |
Separate tables: |
we like dining together with our guests. |
Air conditioning: |
the natural air of Mount Peglia is more than adequate. |
Animals.
Guests can bring on holiday with them their four-footed friends, secure in the knowledge that they will be appreciated and petted.
Animals, in fact, are the true and undisputed masters who rule the roost at Spante, for we are convinced that every animal should be listened to and respected and that the rapport between man and beast represents an essential part of life.
In our domain live in perfect harmony five dogs, three cats and Aragon the rabbit.
However, even more numerous are the wild animals that roam undisturbed in the surrounding woods and very often like to show off to our guests.
Foremost among them the wild boar, but one can also come across pheasants, porcupines, falcons, hoopoes, great red woodpeckers, buzzards, fireflies, pine martens, deer, fallow deer and fawns.
Swimming pool e Solarium
For those really hot days, a swimming pool, 18 by 8 metres'
with sun loungers and a solarium annex is at the disposal of
our guests. As for the children, if they do not want to
contend with the adults over swings, traditional bowls and
ping pong, they have a little wooden fort all to themselves.

Internet
Borgo Spante is an ideal base for numerous excursions and is
within easy reach of the most important art centres in Umbria
and southern Tuscany.
In the vicinity of our farmhouse centre there are destinations
which are not usually so well known and are often omitted from
the traditional guide books:
Monte Castello, with its Teatro della Concordia - theatre of
peace and harmony, - the smallest in Europe, Collelungo, with
its mediaeval castle and the ‘santuario della Madonna della
Luce- Sanctuary of Our Lady of Light, to the ‘santuario
della Madonna dei Bagni' - Sanctuary of Our Lady of Spas, with
its traditional thanksgiving votive offerings, the castle of
Saint Appolinaire, Parrano and the speological excursion into
the
Tane del Diavolo! - Lairs of the Devil…
Highly recommended are the following trips which set out from
the Borgo:
walks in the woods of Mount Peglia , the excursion to Elmo and
Melonta, the exploration of Mount Piatto , the outing to the
torrents at Faena and Fersenone, the long walk to the castle
of San Vito and Palazzo Bovarino.
The cooking, in the capable hands of Giuliana and Caterina,
exploits to the full the recipes of the rich and appetizing
Umbrian gastronomy, prepared using our own produce and that
freshly picked from nature in the countryside around Borgo
Spante.
Thanks to old family recipe books from the 1700's and 1800's,
we have learnt how to use to advantage the wild herbs we
collect in the fields: borage, traveller's joy, different
kinds of mushroom and asparagus, dandelions and chicory.
Our great strength lies in our starters: ‘le pizza ripiene'
pizzas with rich toppings, ‘le sorellucce con il guanciale'
‘little sisters' – toast with broad beans and streaky
bacon, ‘le fritture di salvia funghi, ed erbe selvatiche'
food fried with sage, mushrooms and wild herbs, ‘pecorino
fritto' fried pecorino, and ‘I crostini dei morti'; toasts
with broad bean purè': these broad bean dishes traditionally
used for the day of All Souls, but also at other times, are
peasant recipes which go back to the times of the Romans!
First courses include: ‘le minestre di orzo e di farro'
soups of barley and of spelt (the historical ‘confarratio'
– focaccia wedding cake used by the Romans)' ‘le polente'
various polentas, and ‘le pizza al testo',standard pizzas.
Our second courses come from our own animals: rabbit, guinea
fowl, turkeys, ducks, geese, or from our game.
Our accommodation price covers half board, with breakfast and
full dinner where drinks (a genuine red local wine and water
from the spring here at Spante) are included.
